The Old Deviant

Contributed by Ambivalence on Monday, 9th June 2008 @ 08:45:08 AM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

The old man steps inside the crowded temple
during communion of the celebration.
Again, he sees the dreadful site, feeling sick
from his greatest and deepest frustration.
For him, to firmly believe is not simple.
God is a bitter taste his tongue cannot lick.

“I still, unlike them, choose not to eat or drink
their lies, but so many around me are fed
with this…‘consecrated body and blood’ since
they are all foolishly inspired!” he thinks.
“They receive this plain-tasting wine and bread,
a means to deceive their minds, numb and clueless!”

He leaves with the same misunderstanding,
having no faith in the supernatural.
He failed to follow this Catholic doctrine.
Now, in his desperate age, he is history,
for God knows he is damned at his funeral
to hell to regret all that he should have been.

a means to deceive their minds....... profound there.
I like your work more and more incredible write once again. The ending left me with a lump in my throat.
Got a bit teary eyed. It sang out to me in a personal manner.
