the bongos' lure me on
further into
the sacrificial arms
of the drummer. . .
a man
without witness
for there is no need.
his patriarchal voice
beating, uplifting
rising from the leather.
the sinew
of a soul. . .
sleepwalking,
waking
to the beat
of life
waiting. . . searching
for accompaniment.
