Ascension into Hell

Contributed by FLTulip on Friday, 14th March 2003 @ 07:00:00 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

Like cattle going off to slaughter
Someone’s son, someone’s daughter
Who once had dreams of something more
Than what is held beyond the door

Which awaits them each and everyday
With silver jaws to take them away
Up into their place of pain
Where few can smile and less are sane

Hot it’s not, but cold instead
From icy breath of those long dead.
The living dead can make a wage
Repeating tasks in their steel cage.

Not old enough to call it quits
Not young enough to suck from tits
Provided in youth for food and shelter
So they work so helter-skelter

For a cause they do not care
And only adds yet more gray hair
They work and slave for another dollar
Tell me can you hear them holler?

Most likely not… their silent screams
Rarely escape beyond the seams
Of their steel cages and glass ceilings
These tortured souls devoid of feelings

So when you see them on the street
And recognize their hurried feet
Please be kind and bid them well
On their Ascension into Hell

This was really good I enjoyed it a lot, but work can't be that bad can it? This was really descripticve very good imagery. I think I'll take another read around.

I know to have a job is a blessing, but yes Some days yes I feel this way. Trapped....The idea hit me on the way up the elevator to my office and it just grew from there. That is why I like poetry. It is so good for releasing point in time frustrations/emotions. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Great poem, FL! Yes, I think it is this way for many people most days, the other few, some days. The ideal would be to work at the thing you love to do. Still it is great to have work to provide for things we want and need. Have a bright spot in your work today, I pray. Bizzy
