Wouldn't it be Great

You know I have heard
That if you live for the past
Then that is what you'll get
Not knowing what its front of you
When the record books been set
Its hard not to think
That we've all got a plan
Something we drew up long ago
Before we were born
Before we would even know
Life gives you nights
Where you go home satisfied
Or leave you in the dust
Sometimes leaving you smiling
Other times left to rust
Picking out the good and bad
Is a chore for most all folks
Giving up is an easy task
Hitting the pillow
Or hitting the flask
But wouldn't it be greater
If you could learn from the good
Even learn from all the bad
Mix it up, throw it on ice
And understand those memories we had
In the past of course
The far distant mind
In the future as well
Wouldn't it be great
If we couldn't really tell
