SOMEONE I USED TO KNOW

Contributed by jsringo on Saturday, 7th June 2008 @ 11:55:55 AM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

I saw her standing in the garden, a flower in Her hair
She looked so very lovely, I could not leave her there
I told her I am not from here and only passing through
Just looking for a friendly face and have a drink or two

Flowers growing on the trellis were reflected in her eyes
Some blue and green, not often seen, except in July skies
It may just be that you know her, I asked this kindly Lass
She left here quite some years ago, how swiftly time does pass

She told me they were quite good friends, those many years ago
She told me of a handsome lad she said they used to know
So why is it that you are here, in this town of Marinette
You seem to be someone, that I would never soon forget

Some say that she got married and some will say she passed away
Some say she died from a broken heart, myself I can not say
She said way back then she loved him, she gave this man her soul
She would have given anything, it was her heart, He stole

My father is the one requested that I stop and say hello
When at first my Father told me, I never thought I'd go
Now that you told me everything about her I'm glad
Now I know just why I'm here, for my father was that Lad

I thanked her for her kindness and kissed her hand farewell
I'm not sure I'll be back this way, but one can never tell
Please give your father all my best, was what she had to say
But she whispered, "I still love him" as she slowly walked away
