I Almost Forgot

I drove past your house today
I didn't pay any thought to it
I just kept on cruising by.
I didn't slow down to take a look
In fact,
I almost forgot it was your place.

I saw the tree in back.
The one we used to lean up against to look at the stars.
I remember the night it started raining
We just sat there
Sheltered from the rain by its branches and leaves
That's when we stayed up all night long
And just talked.

But that was then and this is now.
I have no more pain in my heart from you
And those dark long nights under the tree
Are nothing but past memories
Memories I've shoved in the back of my mind.
But even though I drove past your place
And I forgot about the feelings I used to have
There's always one thing I won't forget,
I'll never quite understand.
And that's the night we both wished on the same star
And the night you left, is the night it fell.
