There were willow trees, oak and birch
Where flocks of birds would come and perch
And also stood a small white church
Where many souls came to search
In this grand city of Cornell
We roam these hills till evening light
Was almost turned to dead of night
Where floating fireflies gave us fright
There I lived til fond farewell
Baby rabbits came out to play
We would see them every day
While we wiled our time away
Wish I had, but I could not stay
In this grand city of Cornell
Everything was so serene
Every where you look was green
Trees and leaves and all between
There I lived til fond farewell
Mom knew all the flowers that grew
Even those that no one knew
Roses covered in morning dew
She'd cut them back they grew anew
In this grand city of Cornell
I loved the folks I knew back then
I'll never see their kind again
I'm proud that I can call them friend
There I lived til fond farewell

A grand ode to the place you once did dwell. This was beautifully
nostalgic and I imagine, quite reminiscent for you. There are many
who will wander to this page and feel a sense of homesickness
for their own Cornell. We all have our memories and pull them
out in times of needed comfort, but going back ... well, it's never quite
the same as you remember, no? It's lovely to have these words to
accompany the photographs we save from the past. It helps us to move
forward, remembering where we came from, methinks.
Great post! Very enjoyable read.
