Would we be friends?

Topic: FriendshipPoetry

Would we be friends?

If we were to meet on the street
Would it matter if I had no feet?
If we would sit and talk face to face
Would it matter if I were a different race?

If my face was marked with a scar
Would I be any less of a shining star?
If you knew I was old and fat
Would you tell me you can’t deal with that?

What if my feet each had twelve toes?
And another one in place of my nose
Would that so disrupt the picture of me that you paint?
Would I still be considered in your eyes a saint?

You are my friend today and tomorrow
You are my friend through times of joy and sorrow
I hold no prejudgment on a person by their looks
I enjoy each one as unique as a new type of book

Outward looks have no bearing on the soul you find inside
Please do not let someone mean force your beauty to hide
We are friends writing and sharing our thoughts in this place
Would you still call me your friend if fate brought us face to face?

No feet, no hands, 2 noses, 3 belly-buttons, 4 eyes..wouldn't matter...just as long as your heart and soul are what I know them to be.... I would still be your friend forever.. I love you, my friend..always have..always will

Looks really shouldn't matter but so many of us just base friendship, love anything and everything upon them and it is such a shame. Sometimes those people who have been condemned basically by others are ofthen the nicest people in the world. This is the harsh reality of life though and sometimes it just makes you sick. This poem though was brilliant and you did a wonderful job expressing yourself and how you feel about other peoples judgements. It shouldn't matter really but it does. Wonderfully written.

Take care
Christina

Wonderful poem, and I hope that we would. I think we all say we aren't racist, aren't bigots, aren't adverse to "different" people, but we still look, still stare, still whisper.....rather sad, isn't it?
