THE KNIGHT

Contributed by jsringo on Friday, 23rd May 2008 @ 02:17:45 PM in AEST
Topic: fantasy

King John has asked for his knights
The bravest knights in all the land
To come at once to the village green
And Vie for his daughters hand

Princess Clare is his eldest
A blond vision in silk and gold
Eyes as blue as the clear blue sky
A magnificent dream to behold

From far and wide they rode their steeds
Over woodlands and mountain stream
Bound for castle and for tranquil Clare
Each wished to be supreme

The Jousts went on day upon day
The Black Knight conquered all who came
No matter which brave soul he faced
It always would come out the same

Clare's pretty face began to gray
She could never love one so foul
She wrinkled her eyes in a frown
And painted her mouth with a scowl

Just when Clare thought all was lost
Galloping down to the village green
Came Phillip, Son of the village squire
Who was favored quite well by the queen

He donned armor then mounted his steed
He readied both lance and his shield
Clare tied her scarf to his arm
Then He turned and sprang to the field

Each knight waited the sign to begin
The two brought their weapons to bear
With a clash they met on the court
Great splinters of wood filled the air

The Black knight lay bloody and beaten
He slowly dragged himself from the field
Phillip raised his sword in salute
Then Let fall to the ground his shield

Phillip rode to the side of Clare
Kissed her hand and held it on high
King John raised his hand as a signal
White doves rose high in the sky

Welcome to ypdc! For a first post this is fantastic.
It is sure nice to see a poem like this once more resting upon the page here at ypdc. You brought a fresh write aboard. Bravo.
