My Boy and Me

Well I woke up late one night you see

A terrified cry had startled me

So I went to the crib to see what was wrong

I picked up my darling baby boy

He's the love of my life, my precious joy

And I started to hum a song

And to my surprise

He hushed his mouth and closed his eyes

Wrapped his tiny hands around my arm

All my life this is what I've missed

A baby to hold in peaceful bliss

To protect and keep from harm

He's got his mama's baby blues

And soft blonde hair too

I never would have thought this to be true

Now hes been growin up big and tall

A sweet little smile just like his pa

He's the greatest thing I've ever saw

Today he turned sixteen

Asked me bout the world and all I had seen

So I sat down and we had a little talk

I told him about the faces I'd been

About my first dog and my best friend

And all the places to where I had walked

His eyes grew wide with every word I spoke

As I told him of all the hearts I had broke

And he asked whats it like to fall in love

Speechless I tried to find the words

Somethings more than the simple bees and birds

And I said its a gift from God above

He's so much like me I want to cry

Pullin stunts, sayin he'll never die

Stealin girls hearts with his devilish grin

He's the generous type

Has long prayers with God at night

Talking to Him like He's his best friend

Its come to that time in a father's life

When I have to let him spread his wings and fly

And lookin back on we had a great time

Fishin in the creek just my boy and me

I'm so proud of him now that everything has worked out fine
