Friday Rain

Friday Rain

There’s a storm coming through this morning
As big and dark as my regret
With you
And the rain is pounding overhead
the sound
I feel each drop cutting through
My pride

I wanted to stay in bed
Pull the covers over myself
And hear you forget
About me
All in one beep of the alarm

And the green grey sky
Falls into my stomach
And the feeling is wrestling within me
I am writhing within me

I am reminded
When I hear the thunder rolling
Closer
The rumbling
Getting heavier

I used to think
Nothing could touch me
On stormy days
Like that sanctuary of sadness
Was only mine to be still in

I hardly know what still means
Anymore

I am running from life store
To life store
Picking up the supplies
I’m gonna need for the next big
Disaster
They just keep coming faster
And shorter in between
The last regret and this one now

“Funny how that makes you
Fight them somehow”
I thought to myself
As I sat under the storm
And let every bad decision
Trickle down my nose.
I tasted every particle
Of unclean thought
I went insane and became addicted to
The taste of the mess of her life words

The mess of my own words
Bitter
Stale

Empty.
