the crook

The Crook
Equities, bonds, stocks and shares,
It’s just financial musical chairs.
Down Jones up FT down, Third world debt,
‘ We’ll eat up town’

In the Pink of Saville Row,
The Maserati has to go,
A small return, but no big deal,
I’ve never sat behind the wheel.

How can we justify these fees?
My Swiss account they cannot freeze.
Credit crunch downturn ‘more Pinot Noir’,
‘Is she a model at the bar’?

My education cost the earth,
As minister I’ll show my worth.
The old boys club I have a pass,
‘Petrus old boy I’ll have a glass’!

The little man without a voice,
It’s not my fault I had no choice.
Fraud is such an ugly word,
Though victims will remain unheard.

The family company down the pan,
They should have had a business plan.
For fifty years they sold their wares,
While I attained insider shares.

One of many, not a few,
‘Left in the lurch’ well that’s not true.
Helps at hand I’ve seen the forms,
They might survive these fiscal storms.

No guarantees, no get out clause,
Proliferating unjust wars.
The common man can’t understand
These flames of conflict, must be fanned.

We represent you thankless lot,
That cross you placed, have you forgot.
But we’ll move on when we are through,
We plutocrats, we chosen few.

We always had our own agenda.
To maintain our five star splendour.
We grease the cogs in many lands.
Ablutions still leave dirty hands.

I must go now, the plane awaits,
As I head for the first class gates.
A one way ticket, can’t say where,
But no one said this life is fair.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
