Then I Waited
Near to midnight, I placed the call
To see if you would come
But the phone just rang, and rang, and rang
And then it was all done
I called again, and then once more
Thinking, you were asleep
And all I’d get each time I tried
Was your answering machine’s “beeeep”
You were not there to pick it up
I guess you had gone out
So I just left this message
To tell you how I felt
And then I waited several hours
Hoping, that if and when
I’d get the call to let me know
That you had gotten in
But when that did not happen
These thoughts ran through my head
And my mind had just grown tired
So I put myself to bed
