Far, Distant Shores
Believing he was safe,
the child toddled his way across the thoroughfare;
innocence bringing him safely to the far curb.
Taunting rush hour traffic,
the adolescent danced and jived,
flaunting his way to the distant curb.
Respectful and knowing,
the middle-aged laborer
crossed the avenue with the lights at the intersection,
knowing it was the safest passageway to the other side.
Now, knowing what needs to be known,
the blind and bent old man tapped a path across the highway,
and once again,
a knowing innocence brought him safely to the far, distant shore.
