---------------_______________---------------------
I said “I love you” today
I tried hard to make you believe it
I tried hard to believe it myself
But the truth is that I hate you my love
I hate you now
and I hated you when I said it
When I look into your eyes
all that I can see
is a string of broken promises
lies stacked upon lies
things that you wanted to do but never tried
and the countless missed opportunities created by
the millions of precious moments I’ll never get back
Yes, I hate you
I hate who you are
I hate what you’ve made me
and most of all I hate what we’ve become
Even if I could love you
and all of your cruel ways
I could never love what we’ve become
a sickening, rotten display of denial
a putrid example of naivete run amok
and a horrid case of idealism gone too far
I don’t love you
but I love who you were supposed to be
I love what I thought you were
but you never understood yourself
you never make an attempt to understand me
and now no one
not even the Gods above
can understand us
So why, why do I say I love you?
Is it a reflex
or perhaps just words uttered in fear?
No, my love, I say I love you because they are just words to me
words like any other in the language
the only difference is that they’re the ones you want to hear
and until you want to hear others
I’ll repeat them to you again and again and again
just because I’ve lost the will to fight
I’ve lost the heart to argue
and I truly don’t care enough to speak the truth
If that’s your idea of love
then I hope you enjoy it
It’s the way you made me
the way you taught me
the way you groomed me
and I hope you enjoy your “I love yous”
because I know you’ve worked so hard for them
and even though they’re shallow and wasted
they’re just like the love we share
I think even you can agree
that they’re the perfect words for you
even if they’re words just like
any other words in the language.

Ah, performativity, subjectivity, relativity...it's all touched upon here for a very good read. I think the ideal vs the reality of situations, people, and things are always interesting to analyze. The speaker's candor here is well appreciated, as I know I've been in similar situations. Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed it very much. |

As we sit here at our desks in our robes we open up many ancient books with inked in many different fonts with many different languages on many different papers. We decide to play a game tossing out a word one at a time to see their effect on the unit which is referred to as "The Ghost Alarms". We do this in honour of your wonderful work of art.
The first word that we come across is "pig". Once this word is tossed out we strip of our robes and begin rolling around in our mud bath which is drawn by those who draw us, who are ultimately in control. We roll in the mud simultaneously rolling to the left and right in perfect rhythm. We stand up in unison and realize that we are all dirty and naked. A pig has no pride seemingly (from our studies). In face most of them ride around in their patrol vehicles and do whatever they want, arresting whomever they want without concern on how it looks or rapes the judicial system. So, in order to suit this word completely in context we do not bother with shame. Though some Ghost Alarms should probably be ashamed.
The next word we come to is "murder". So each Ghost Alarm takes out a knife and stabs the one to his left in the heart simultaneously. The one on the farther left stabs the one to the farthest right. Suddenly we are all dead. How are we typing at the moment...well we are the GHOST alarms. So maybe this has something to do with it. Yet we are upset because we are dead, and death is not exactly exciting. The floor is cold and the blood is sticky. It is hard for us to get up from the ground because we are stuck. Most importantly, however we are dead. The fact that we are dead is exactly why it is hardest to get ourselves off of the ground.
So we turn the pages (even though we are dead...how?....ghost fingers) to another word. That word is "resurrection" we rise from death and are now completely alive. We have now learned many lessons. Firstly, pigs smell like bacon. Secondly, some of us need to keep our robes on. Thirdly, death is sticky and impossible. Finally, language is powerful even at it's most simple. The words "I love you" seem insignificant but are powerful when used in context with emotion. The words "I hate you" are powerful but can be meaningless powerless words when used without real meaning only in reaction. Language indeed is powerful. Language is in fact a greater action than action itself. Your words here have inspired us, and have in our minds resurrected the concept of the many sides of language. As you know POETRY is the language of emotion, the expression of the soul through words, rhythm, and form. You have written a well expressed poem and we have learned from it. That is much learning, for we are many.
May Socrates rise from the grave and release grave dust in the wind. |

A brutally honest write. And how you structured the poem just made it flow really well. Nice write. |
