His Last Breath

Grief
|
The frail old woman stood alone
Back braced against the pounding rain
Tears falling freely, but not easing the pain
She stared vacantly out at her broken home
The fire’s rage destroying all that she owned
Her weathered memories were all that remained
And a battle-scarred conscience still shouting out blame
She could still hear the flames crackle and moan
Her husbands cold body they carried away
After years of devotion he was out of her life
Grief and exhaustion were now taking their toll
As a blood red sun ushered in a new day
And she wept for her husband, this heartbroken wife
Because his last breath left a void in her soul.
