Gadfly
The gadfly has bitten and everything is fine
And finally it’s not
As venom has lubricated the inertia
And stopped the rot
It’s wings have danced
Danced a silhouette across the wall
Of life worth grabbing
Still the flicker inside stays small
This is a flicker that tickles and pricks
At a cavernous ceiling
It etches across the surface and scrapes wounds
Still the wounds feel no meaning
Graffiti across the core
The cold, wasted core
Of cold, wasted time
And that’s fine
That was fine

For some reason it reminds me of a surrealist painting (I am a painter so maybe that's why) but very nice write. I like the images I got from it. I've been here a few years (I lost my first account though, I couldn't remember the password) but this is a good place to post poems, and to get feeback. Keep up the good work! |

Hi, I didn't know what a 'gadfly' was, so I looked it up and I read the poem with the meaning of a gadfly being 'a person who poses upsetting or novel questions' and also of a 'fly'. I thought it was a good piece of work and I especially liked the lines:
As venom has lubricated the inertia
And stopped the rot
Nice work.
