Grains of Sand
I held them in my hands today
With every move some slipped away
They are the ones I could not stop
Upon the beach is where they’d drop
My fear was that it just might end
And I’d bend to pick them up again
Then to my feet as I did rise
That worried look upon my eyes
My fingers try to do their best
And I continue still, with no rest
For with each scoop it made me mad
Try to retrieve what I’d once had
If I’d stand still, they’d stay in place
The wind and rain blown to my face
But now a calm moves through the night
And dawn would bring with it the light
Still sleep, had yet come to my eyes
And here the sun begins to rise
But as I peer down to each hand
I had held on, to the grains of sand

Profound piece of writing... I loved the analogy here and enjoyed the poem immensely.... Jenni |
