so you walk on

I do believe the wandering
lead you away.
far away, to seasons & worlds
not our own.
far away from me.
so you walk on. . .
time reached out
in endless silence
as your footsteps rose & fell.
while the silence vanished
quietly
& my cries
an end to these as well.
you bewildered,
wide-eyed wondering,
as your voice,
it bade farewell,
lost behind the words
just spoken & I,
I grope the silence
stunned as hell
by the tawdry meaning
now turned meaningless.
each thought
seperately provoking
& attuned to the task at hand
to go so gently into good-bye.
with such a tender turning, I.
so in silence
you walk on. . .
leaving me behind
remembering. . .
I remember
how I won you,
won your heart,
with my smile, my touch.
& maybe my belly. . .
not to mention
the endless matter of how
I loved you, oh so much.
all the pauses that I gave
just to hear you
utter any sound or
love shaped word,
spun echo towards me.
in the end, perhaps
even to befriend me
elegance of slight of hand.
with the sweetest gesture. . .
you once vowed
a sacredness upon our dreams
to come to pass.
even as they wane to fading.
you close your eyes.
& dare not see.
when my eyes came
to give them back,
they were broken
so you walk on. . .
& the residue,
fallout before us.
confetti for our misplaced grief.
confetti of a ten-thousand
pardons.
don't look back
I'm pardoning. . .
with all my strength.
so you walk on.
