The Memories of Elmwood Keep

Contributed by doug on Friday, 11th April 2008 @ 01:18:25 PM in AEST
Topic: mystical

~***~
Winter spires wrapped in thorn
Hallways , empty , now adorned
with the dead december leaves
sleeping now though ill at ease

The cold of night is setting in
throughout the halls ; a prowling wind
stirs the leaves into a trance ;
softly haunting spiral dance

Eyes of portraits so macabre
staring down the empty hall
seem to watch the dancers fall
falling now on barren toes!

Where they step the torches sigh ;
sparkling as they come to life
and vines of summer surely grow
whence and where the light doth glow!

In that globe of summer mist
waits a tall and youthful prince ;
eyes immersed in boundless dream
searching for some thing unseen

Hair a careless summer style ,
barefoot , with an easy smile
heedless now though all the while
the castle lay in frozen death.

Behold , a breath of swirling mist
weaves itself into a dress
and soon there stood a girl of dreams
with hair of twilight 'pon the seas

Unto the smiling prince she raced ;
to hold him in a deep embrace
and in that summer dream they kissed
and danced away into the mist

Eyes of portraits so macabre
staring down the empty hall
watching leaves that swirl and fall ;
falling now on frozen stone.
~***~

Beautiful. Very visual - almost tangable and lovely flow of words. I really loved this. Thanks for that!

if we shadows have offended
think but this and all is mended
that you have but slumbered here
whilst these visions did appear

it gives me that feeling of images conjured up by dreams and as quickly as they are seen, they re gone. An imaginative piece that once again testifies to your amazing skill that puts the rest of us to shame.

Doug,

The imagery and flow of this piece was truly beautiful. Your words painted a picture that will stay with me throughout the day. I believe I will have to visit your page more frequently.

Peace

~Shannon

Another masterful job with amazing word choice and brilliant imagery. You paint a gloomy portrait but still a beauty shines from beneath. This again is an outstanding job. Every stanza, every line, every word.

SUPERBLY CRAFTED!

I think almost all your poems shine with the same brilliance becuase you seem to have a good hold on rhythm and meter. so any topic you pick you command the verses very easily. Nicely done again.
