WARRIOR QUEEN

Contributed by whome on Wednesday, 9th April 2008 @ 11:57:29 PM in AEST
Topic: fantasy

The strong wind heralded the coming storm
Blowing her fiery red hair over her face
As she stood beneath the clouded sky
With its black clouds racing to cover it

Like an avenging army advancing on its foe
Her breathing was heavy and laborious
As she looked down upon her defeated enemy
The fight was not of her choosing, but his

He had goaded her and insulted her viciously
Till at last she accepted his boastful challenge
They had fought viciously, bitterly and long
As only bitter hatred can inspire two enemies

Twice she had almost fallen under his sword
For it had cut deep into her unguarded flesh
But still she refused to submit to his power
Slowly her agility and greater speed aided her

Then as her mind allowed her to think clearly
All trace of fear or defeat and death vanished
Now she fought with added determination
It was not her pride but her life she defended

Then she saw her enemy's misjudgement
Swiftly and determined she struck a vital blow
It was not fatal but now he saw her ability
Suddenly the battle had turned in her favour

Now for the first time he knew for certain
That never would he walk from this duel
Only death and dishonour lay before him
And as she screamed her burning hate at him

With every particle of her strength and power
She brought her flashing blade upwards
Entering his unguarded body below his armour
Slicing viciously and deep into his body

Instantly she knew it was a death blow
Still he refused to submit and weakly fought on
Now her thrusts were accurate and sudden
Till finally he collapsed to his knees

His fading eyes looked at her, begging for life
The warrior queen offered him no mercy
Her blade flashed through the deathly silence
Striking her fallen enemy on his exposed neck

With arms outstretched she cried her victory
With sword in hand she held them skywards
The severed head high for all to see and know
For no longer need they live in fear and dread

Then as she loudly sang her song of victory
In thankful praise to her mighty god of war
Her tribe gathered round in ecstatic adulation
As she gave her joyful thanks and appreciation

This bloody battle happened long years ago
Now deep in their mythic and distant past
Yet still it is remembered with joyful pride
The day their warrior queen fought and defeated

Their enemy's champion from across the river
Since that day the people had prospered in peace
And forever prayed fervently to their god of war
That it would forever and for always continue so

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
