Memories come flooding back to me
As I sit looking over the water.
I remember an old man sitting here
Old in years and life’s experiences
His hair as white as snow
His face lined with age, with life
Lines of happiness, lines of sadness
He sits, eyes looking beyond the water
What is in his mind?
Is he remembering a lost love?
Perhaps wars in distant lands,
forgotten battles, fallen comrades,
or memories of childhood and family?
This man, so full of wisdom.
He comes back to me.
“You know young fella, I’ve been thinking”
Is he going to share some of his memories?
Or will he pass on some of his wisdom?
“Yes?”
“I’ve been thinking”
“You look as though you could do with some ice-cream”
Ah, so wise and so insightful.
Many years have past but the memories so clear.
I miss you grandpa

lovely tribute, Gary, whether it is real or imagined - although is sounds real and heartfelt. I never had a grandpa like this - my loss ( maybe I'll be like this to my grandkids after they are made).
