Can't Take Away

Topic: MiscPoems

You smile at me through dewy lips
Eyes sparkling, shaking your hips
You say you can take away my man
So here I go, telling you where I stand

You can’t take away what I don’t own
All depends on which way the wind has blown
He is free to stay or take flight
So go away, I don’t intend to fight

Never have I ever staked a claim
Even when I went and took his name
If he loves me he will stand by my side
I will always leave it for him to decide

You can tempt him, tell him pretty lies
With velvet ribbons to him I am tied
If he wants he can just untie and leave
I won’t be crying, tugging on his sleeve

My heart is an open book
There for anyone to take a look
I love him and it would hurt a lot
But never will I put him on the spot

So go ahead throw all you got
Give it your best shot
If he bites, then he was never mine
If he stays, then we are doing fine

Well said, my friend.... There's a saying that depicts what you have said here...but for the life of me I can't think of it now.... But all you have said is so true... I have always maintained that I will never force a man to stay with me if he wants to leave....
Good write...
Jenni

Well said indeed!
I am not sure most people would share your attitude, but you are obviously a strong person inside!
A very pleasant read.
