Daydreams, day drifts, the quick tick lapses into minutes
Wanes into lazy afternoon, crawls into deepest night
Another day passed, fled and now past
No longer present, just a marker for the memory
Preoccupation with the inconsequential steals precious seconds
Meandering through meaningless hastens rush of darkness
Strangled in the grip of triviality, chained to the mundane
Soporific passengers, sleeping through our history
Distractions our attractions, producing unproductive self
On the precipice of something, yet falling into nothing
Carpe diem culled by too familiar state of mind
Shackling our own energy, to a fate that drags us down
Consumed by apathetic state, our catatonic recipe
Blinded thoughts, posessed by mindset nurtured by ourselves
When new day dawns, will it dawn on us to knit the threads of life
Or let the unforgiving minute once again just drift away

You make me miss words. Words used to be an addiction for me. In my line of work, I no longer come in contact with people that capable of anything more than legal jargon. Which while it can be a bit wordy, it's nothing more than pointless fillers. You are a true inspiration to the English language in it's full beauty. Thank you for the intoxication. |

Spot on, PDE. 'ticking away, the moments that make up a dull day' - Pink Floyd. I played with a similar idea in 'Time and Tide' though not so acerbic, if you don't mind the description. A poem to make you think about the fleeting, zero-sum nature of our existence. We all think we have years and years to make it all worthwhile, don't we... |

You have an uncanny ability to put into eloquent words exactly what I bemoan about so many people today, including myself. How much time have I wasted filling my mind and time with nothing of significance? As of late I've made a concerted effort to change that and this poem just reinforces that need. Great job!

Preoccupation with the inconsequential steals precious seconds.
Think we are all guilty of preoccupation with the inconsequential, I certainly am and then wonder where the day has gone.
Life is too short to waste precious time.
Well done Steve.
Your word leap from the screen and smacks us back into reality. |
