My African brothers and mothers are dying
stricken with diseases hungry and crying
who will hear their voices the screams on the wind
who will wipe their wounds and bathe their skin
who will feed that family forgotten and lone
will you clothe the feeling chilled to the bone
Meanwhile black in America
We still fight
for justices' right
Lone man staring at the dark Sky's starlight
Praying to the forefathers that have been bought and sold
The ones that built this country so bold
On bloodied backs and cracked broken skin
He prays for that slaves souls to come within
Fill this vassal with something so true
Force me to be that part of you
That aches with the Nigerian
Suffers with the Nubian
Bleeds with the Algerian
And still calls me it's brethren
Despite the fact that I've become Americanized
Though the blood is being spilled turned blind eyes
Choose to ignore
No more
Allowing my wrist blood to wash about shore
of the Nile
No longer in denial
Of the lives lost
I now understand the cost
Meanwhile black in America
It's 2008
And the latest debate
Is weather or not to deliberate
To allow a black man to run the states
"My how we've come from a place of hate"
To actually change the course of fate
Finally it feels good to be
Black in America
