A heart lies broken
Decimated by ones before
Torturous memories
Of an unrequited love
Yet the heart still beats
Surviving if only for a dream
Or is it a forgotten memory
Of what it is to be complete
Struggling to survive
Gaining strength from within,
Faith that what was
Can be found once again
Sustained in a moment
Embedded in time,
In true love’s fashion
Forgiveness we might find
Mending mutilation
Caused by indifference
Of a wandering heart
In the recesses of yesterday
Memories lay bare
A small burning ember
Caressed by passion
Ignites the fire of years
Touched by the moment
Star-crossed lovers meet
Tenderness has surfaced
True love’s warm embrace
For a single heartfelt touch
From the depths of your soul
Awakens the devotion
We pledged to uphold
Peace

| Holy moly, I loved this. Maybe I'm just in the mood to be floored by this genre of poetry, but wow, I was really enjoying reading this thing. I loved your word choice, the descriptive lines throughout were really, really (I've said 'really' too much...) great, and the first stanza is probably my favorite, it's what hooked me from the beginning. Kudos to you, this was excellent. |
