The fire

Contributed by Makeshift_2134 on Sunday, 2nd March 2008 @ 11:20:24 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

What is life but a single fleeting moment?
I contemplate as I stare at dancing shadows.
What is love but a moment of warmth.
In this neverending pit of cold in which we're forced to live.
It's a memory to torture as I sit in the cold.
Unflinching.
Unfeeling.
Numb as I stare at the lovers flames.
Watching the fire lick the night sky.
I am torn by my options.
Do I sit and watch the fire.
Wait for the moment I get to feel it's warmth.
Or do I embrace the darkness.
Absorb the cold.
And forget my loves that never last.
Memories that are altogether beautiful but painful?
The good memories haunt me. The bad make me smile.
Let me forget the fire.
Let me accept the cold.
What is pain but the relization of something better?
I laugh as I stare at dancing lights.
What is memory, but something that no longer exists.
I'm haunted by faces as I sit and contemplate.

Very well written. Definitely makes me think of the past i wish to forget. but mayber we're meant to remember? i can't be sure. to me, the fire is the longing that i will never know. and the cold is the harsh reality that i try to escape.

The dry loveless bitter cold is well expressed here with a right flawless flow of words, which makes this poem a moving one indeed.
Great write my friend.
Regards,
FRANCO.

i like it...
it makes me think about my relationships...
the ones that didnt last adt i really wanted them to...
but you know?
its better to have loved then not to love at all..
so i embrace it...
the fier and the cold...
cuz both are good and both are bad...
you know?
i like it...

I say comtemplation is my friend & I embrace a sense of love or just a taste of something lost my mind can't place. . . to spit it out. . . to let me waste a time of growth, a state of grace. no, I can't turn my tear stained face to lift a hand & shatter pain. I want my heart-ache to bring gain. to hold my lessons, forget the name of loves' desire & lost loves shame. where are you friend? inside your mind. at heavens door we glance behind & wait on journeyed discipline earned hard & yet we try again.we try & try as we ascend to sweet relief & time to mend. . .elle.

Piece that made me think. Like the paradox you use - life, love, pain, memories and choices we have to make re these. "haunted by faces" - nicely put.
Nice one.
