Christmas in July

Its Easter in February, and
Christmas in July
the festivities must have split
from seasons they can’t buy.
It’s Halloween in March
according to the shelves;
it must be quite confusing for
all the zombies and the elves.
Thanksgiving chokes on pilgrim hype
New Year is drowned in booze;
events are all commodified
by gifts you have to choose.
The ante has been lifted,
there’s profits in the lull
buy stuff now to beat the rush?
—we’ll swallow any bull.
And children pester parents
Who can only sigh,
‘Where is all the magic
When it’s Christmas in July?’
