tonight

Contributed by JohnYamrus on Thursday, 7th February 2008 @ 09:30:43 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

tonight

i’m watching the ballgame
(the Phillies are down
2-1 in the 7th)…

between innings
i’m also watching
The Sands Of Iwo Jima,
with John Wayne
and reading the poems of
Edna St. Vincent Millay.

one day,
between the poems
and the movies
and the ballgames,
death will surely
beat my door in…

before that time
i hope to
read
and write
and hope and love
and walk the streets at night.

one day,
surely,
death will beat my door in…

and when it does…

when my back is to the wall
i will still
wave my arms
and try my luck
at shouting down the wind.

John,

I loved it...on the surface it seems like a pretty ordinary man...pleasant...normal...real. But beneathe the surface I sense a tenaciously driven man who will continue doing what he is doing, continue wishing what he wills to wish, and defiant in the face of death. Soft, but hard. Robust, but gentle. You seem to have developed for me a strong sense of dynamic tension, and I was caught up in it.

Thanks,

ron...enigma

John,

you know I loved this...... the game and everything in between all at once.......

and the ending God I loved the freedom
