'an ass n i'

Contributed by ap on Monday, 10th March 2003 @ 03:20:00 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

open the gates, ignite
and shift,
the gear into reverse,
into too bright a day
let the car drift,
swiftly.

i see it today,
again,
didn’t see well last night.
a shade of dust and charcoal,
color of barren earth.
an ass,
of all live things,
with a broken right-hind-limb.
suffering through,
such horrific plight,
making it’s way,
for a drink,
towards a narrow passage,
where water flows.
try harder,
strive more, thirst more,
with these
three limbs carrying
u forward,
while the fourth just slows.
Its old,
and suffering,
tired and wanton,
ravaged, bitten, and gaunt,
a creature i hate,
I feel compassion now.

wish I had a ***** gun handy,
to put u out of ur misery.
i dont,
so be it,
i wont…

a press on the peddle,
jerk of my hand,
shift gear to forward,
i just drive away to work.

I saw it
A few times again,
its pain seemed,
if anything,
worse,
more agony,
yet it still moved,
forward.
while the knee buckled,
backwards.
it didnt cry,
then,
seemed too weak,
even to try.
But,
i thought,
i heard it’s wail,
at night,
i slept fitfully,
on my bed.

havnt seen it lately,
that hideous creature,
living through heinous torture.
maybe cuz I am too
concerned with me,
to even notice the predicament,
of another.
i wish its dead,
rid of its misery,
maybe it just gave up,
or died of thirst.
or hunger,
and went to the green pastures,
of perhaps,
ass-heaven.
its really amusing to think of,
yet,
its cruel,
its bloody tyranny.
but im glad,
for it,
if it has died,
I cudnt stand the way,
it silently cried.
I think
i pretend,
its better off dead,
atleast better off than me,
an incomplete man,
ripped inside,
with
an un-amputated,
rotting,
and rotten,
soul.

I wish some will take a ***** gun
and… me

But then I remember,
how I didn’t help the ass,
by rescuing it from life.
AP.

this poem has left me in awe... the correlation between the ass and man (yourself) is driven home, especially in the ending... EXCELLENT poem... great read... sad and thought provoking too... blessings...
