IT'S OVER

it’s over.
that’s it,
it’s over.
for years
i always wrote my poems
out of love…
well, maybe not
always out of love…
sometimes
despair
or desperation
or any combination of the three.
but certainly
always out of need.
recently, though,
my books have been selling
a bit better…
and that scares me.
let me explain:
this morning
i was writing an e-mail
to a publisher,
and in it i said
“now that the new book’s
done
and doing well,
it’s time i
get to work on the next.”
GET TO WORK!
on poems?
that settles it…
if i don’t do something soon
it’ll all be over
and the only thing i’ll write
will be grocery lists
and laundry lists
and notes for delivery men.
so, i’m asking you…
do me a favor…
please…
if you’re in a bookstore
right now
and you’re reading this…
put the book
back on the shelf.
don’t buy it.
please.
do it for
me.
do it for
us.
i’ll owe you
one.

I was looking for it the book store here but they did not have so,I decided I would pick me a couple of one when I go to the doctor in Texarkana well fraiday..I surely want to read your work..
