Daddy what is my Favourite colour

Contributed by little_genna on Monday, 28th January 2008 @ 03:08:43 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

My feelings betray me,
Why do I need to cry?
Its not like I really know him.
He is a stranger.

This stranger is my father,
We should have shared laughter,
Alas, this couldn't be futher,
Nor these words truer.

Again, his addiction draws him closer to the brink,
All the while I am struggling to think.
We are not even on the same land mass,
There seems little I can do, alas.

This man has no clue of my favourite colour,
Neither my favourite band,
Always preferred his beer or cidar.
Through this I could no longer stand.

I tried to abandon this stress,
But oh my, what a mess.
How was I meant to weather this storm?
It has been the same since I was born.

Nearly twenty years later this man is still killing himself,
And slowly damaging me,
I can't do this to myself,
None of this he gets to see.

He has only seen me once in nine years,
I did this to us,
I could no longer shed my tears,
It was probably a little careless.

How am I meant to feel about a stranger?
A stranger that is closer to dying,
Another life chatper.
My emotions for him feel like I am lying.

I divorced my kids father when they were young because of his alcaholism.
Take care, big luv,
