A Syringe for a Pacifier

Contributed by reprobate on Saturday, 19th January 2008 @ 03:18:30 AM in AEST
Topic: drugabuse

Sitting in the dark with your memories
Much too sick with anger to cry any more
Life has been one long fatal disease
One that ingesting chemicals might cure

Trying all the time just to simply forget
The bile in your throat won't go away
Discarded by fate like an unwanted pet
Now you're a prostitute that has to pay

Sold all your dreams to obey the rules
Were in the way and somehow amiss
Deemed useless by sanctimonious fools
Sinking further into your personal abyss

She's calling out to you ever so sweetly
Taunting, tempting with winsome wiles
Promising a stupored respite completely
Troubles discarded in tiny white piles

Without concern for how much is spent
Delicately danced over fulvous flame
Empty promises where the groceries went
Dose disguised demons disannul shame

Crimson bloom captured in a hypodermic cage
Nebulous numb crawls contemptuously inside
Silent sopor solicits socage in your rage
Pain putrified past any form of personal pride

You wear your scars like some reward
Forgetting they're not momentos won
Surfeit souvenirs smothering forward
Indicators of war's lost and you're done

i dont even pretend to know where this poem comes from....

this may be a really odd way to phrase it but i really enjoy reading your stuff. even though it is pretty dark i enjoy how you use your words. which if i am honest i cannot say that about many peoples works on here.

i normally find it hard to stick with poems that are longer than say 4 stanzas because i get bored with them....but yours capture my mind. i am soooooo glad i stumbled upon your work through one of my random moments of reading all the latest posted poetry,...

Life has been one long fatal disease
Empty promises where the groceries went
Crimson bloom captured in a hypodermic cage

these three lines made the whole poem for me........

This piece speaks so well. The line, Sold all your dreams to obey the rules, struck a tone with me. Thank you.

that old loneliness of drug addiction, out of tears,
sitting in the dark... always seems better 'til the
morning 'afters' ~this poem is heartfelt out there,
its honest, raw and teaches a lesson, i believe, it
is b e a u t i f u l l y written, you got me tho buddy,
had to break out the dictionary lol; just goes to show
we can improve our way of life- and to still be able to
put words together ~let alone so eloquently as you
have done so here~ we are truly blessed...

hugs n' love nessa
