Looking at the face of ages lost,
What memories of loved ones has it cost?
The triggers of a brain not understood,
The thief of lifetimes fragments now like wood.
Blinking, searching eyes look into mine,
Lost connections recognition blind.
Flashes of familiar, causing pain,
Standing in a moment lost again.
Mumbled words with rhythm so familiar,
Hands that clutch at objects still in mid air.
Shaking legs weaken as they travel.
Followed routines now become unravelled.
What villian of the ages steals a life?
Cuts and shreds a being with its knife?
What senseless matter takes its prey so distant?
How can we in future be resistant?

Dear friend,
so very true writing.
I have a brother-in-law with it.
I jus got a flash of it on the world news earlier about medication to bring back memories etc. Like I said, jus got a quick veiw. I'm sure we can research it. i definently will be later.
Awesome writing here. I'll keep on a look out for more about it.
Great work.
Huggs friends,

I can relate so much to your words. Thank God I do not have that dreaded disease, however, twelve years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease, which makes me lose control of my body but thankfully not my mind. I still have a good life and a disease such as this teaches you not to take life for granted and make the best of every day.
Great writing,

I so relate to this and you expressed the same feelings I have often had so well! I've got three poems about Alzheimer's. My Mom had it. I just can't imagine why anyone must live that way for it is not really a life. Any disease, of course is bad but this one seems sometimes more a hell for the family than the patient. Sometimes my mom was oblivious to what was really happening. I suppose in some strange way, it was some sort of gift becasue she had completely forgotten my sister had cancer and then died.
Anyway, this is an excellent poem.
Take care,
Tim |
