Family Affair

Eyes wide beneath a crowded quilt
Before a dog-eared day retreats
From family warmed by dirty sheets
My sister, Blame, my brother, Guilt
Blame on my lips, Guilt rides my hips
While ethics sweat and dogma stinks
Blame pumps with hand that does eclipse
His holy light, and swimmers sinks
Sis whispers whips, she’s a sadist
All pins and needles, buck and toss
Guilt laps it up, a masochist
He’ll suffer suffering for his cross
Blame fakes again, Guilt hates facades
Guilt prays for her, the tempo stops
‘Cause truths sting more than riding crops
And dogs make better lays than Gods
