[We won’t survive this as we began it…]
We’ll be dust or diamonds,
remnants of the selves we were;
some alter-him, some other-her.
We linger now, near metamorphic,
awaiting that one cosmic collision,
great continental shift,
or violent volcano
that is enough in its dying
to change us, move us
and leave us
ripe for the finding.
(One more day will not matter,
one more night will not change
the wickedness of waiting
in a world that stays the same
when the clatter of the cosmos
can’t be heard above its pain.)
Still, a meteor is screaming
across a universal sky
on a collision course with destiny,
fueled by burning time
bound for its final destination
where it will lay its rubble down
with the hope that someday, somehow
its secrets will be mine(d).
[… and whether dust or diamonds, dear, is fine]

Oh, god.
You leave such beautiful comments, you say so much -- and I look at this and I've got almost nothing. Your poetry frequently does that to me but this time, now, these days -- I'm just at a standstill. I've read it twice over. I keep wishing I had beautiful things to tell you, smart things, specific things.
But just: oh. Oh, god. You know?
stunned and feeling a little quiet, like the way you feel compelled to whisper in a room with very beautiful artwork (and you! you're the artwork!),

Snem, this one gets better with each read, in that I pick up more imagery and nuance each time. Great composition - close to stark-like beauty but that's not the right description (my morning coffee hasn't kicked in yet, dammit).
You are so right - we are never the same, better or worse.

Wow - really well done here. I like where this comes from and goes to (like a meteor across the sky, perhaps), and especially what it does while it's going. I've neglected reading your work of late (well, neglected reading much at all, so don't feel bad!), but shouldn't have. Always good to see the coal burning hot as ever.

A phenomenal write. I am hoping to be dug up billions of years from now as a diamond...that can for some reason "not be cut down." Then again if I am dust I hope I am highly allergic so I can get some recognition....lol.
Such a mind stimulating piece of work. I guess if we all remember how vulnerable we are in the universe of life....we may change some of our paths ( or not...lol) |

Oh Snemmy how do you always leave me speechless and feeling I have so much to say but the capacity to express myself has completely left me!
The rhythm in this dances subtly but powerfully with each line soft-stepping into the next, drawing the reader deeper and closer to that collision.
Your words, your ideas and the very essence of this poem are nothing less than brilliant; and reading them I feel inspired and humbled.
Beautiful

Snemmy dearest, I read this, and I -know- that you are a poet. The idea, the execution, the hidden nuance, the penchant, ragged voice behind it..
When you write straight from the heart, you write straight to the heart. I felt this one, felt the you within it.
Beautiful. |
