The darker night is waning
and it’s time to shed your skin,
so I peel back the covers
that exhale the warmth within
and I slip into my clothes
then tiptoe gently on the beams,
to quietly make my exit so
as not to break your dreams.
Did you think I’d be forever,
did you hope for lasting bliss
in the midst of evening’s embrace,
in the morning’s gentle kiss?
in the dying grace of twilight
or the brightness of the day,
there were always hints and whispers
that I would go away.
Some hearts are made for pairing,
others love and carry on
I was never prone to sharing
all my days under the sun…
Did you think I was your soul mate
who would nest within your arms,
did you hope I was the lover
who would linger for your charms?
in the hungers of the body,
in the yearning of the heart
there were always clues and portents
that I would soon depart.
The autumn leaves are dying,
waning hues of red and gold
I brush them from my sighing
as I walk into the cold
and I hunch inside my jacket
as the morning is unfurled,
a glance to bedroom windows
along the streets of all the world.

I really liked this write.
It is well thought out, and flows well.

Wow, extremely powerful, my friend. Much is enclosed within these words you've spilled. I felt much sadness and regret whilst reading. Stinging write.
Peace, love and hugs,

Well good gracious! Spike, my dear friend, I am in utter awe. I am not one who could pick out the particular
technical points in a poem and say to others, this, THIS is what makes this such a beautiful example. However, I
do know when something touches my depth and lingers there like a soft fragrance you want not to forget.
Damn, poet. I can't explain the emotion that overwhelms this heart, but I am completely unnerved by the fact that
in this particular scenario, I would most likely be the one spoken to, and yet, reading this, I feel so much for the
speaker. I feel a sadness that I would never likely have felt, had I not read this. You are a master of manipulation
dear spike. A poet of poets. Thank you for sharing, as always, a piece of brilliance that I should visit again and again.
This is, most definitely a favourite of mine.
in admiration,
~Breezy |

Wow Spike I am so glad I popped in to read this....trully an incredible write and a fantastic metaphor as planned. Although sad it contains such intellectual beauty and an enormous strength of understanding. Awesome. |
