How can you say that your love will not die
How can you say you'll never again cry
Can't you see you're surrounded by blood spilled
Can't you see what love has killed
This image of love today
Will make the culprits pay
For the evil deeds that they have done
For changing love into what it's now become
Your thought of love is just 4 letters
You think you're changing love for the better
Love used to be more than that
Please try to change it back
It was a word that described bliss
It doesn't mean a thing anymore
That shakes me to my very core
Now just a word gone amiss
New couples say it loud
Like they have to, to be proud
They do it to convince themselves
They do it just to convince themselves
They'll get looks of hate and fear
If they show how they really feel
A continuous hateful leer
If they let know, what's real
How can you say that your love will not die
How can you say you'll never again cry
Can't you see you're surrounded by blood spilled
Can't you see what love has killed
Can't you see you're surrounded by blood spilled
Can't you see what love has killed

Amicus,
Your title caught my attention. Then, reading your poem, half of me concurred and the other half wondered. I posted a song on November 6, 2005, It's So Sad. The second verse goes like this:
I've walked the streets of New York City;
I've stood gazing at the Golden Gate;
So many people, they're thinkin' that they're makin' love
when what they're doin' is actin' out their hatred of life,
yeah, and it's goin' down like a double edged knife…
it hurts so bad,
it's just so sad,
it's just so damn sad…
What this world has come to accept as Love is anything but. For complex and yet fairly simple reasons, mankind has given up hope of ever attaining that which is truly Love.
On May 6, 2006, I posted a poem, How To Love Unconditionally In Six Easy Steps * **. Just recently, November 29, 2007, I submitted a poem titled, These Desires, These Fears. For no fault of its own, mankind has been led down a desperate path. Mankind is suffering from the ongoing cataclysmic battle between two systems of belief: free-will and determinism. Thinking the free-will paradigm to be virtuous and wholesome, mankind is being consumed. Thinking determinism to be aligned with all that is dispicable and damning, mankind resists its salvation.
I have placed my valued resources in the vaults of determinism and Unconditional Love. Love that is Unconditional demands that I Unconditionally Love not just those who appear to be wise, but more importantly, those whose behaviors appear to be foolish. Unconditional Love is the antithesis, the opposite, of condemnation and culpability.
I'm afraid this new generation is no more foolish than any previous generation; just foolish in a manner that is different from those prevous to its existence. That this foolishness in some manner expresses a dissatisfaction with a foolishness that has become the status quo is mankind's hope.
You have touched on the pivotal dynamic which will determine whether or not mankind survives as a species or follows the dinosaur into extinction.
Thanks for the opportunity to respond. Good poetic energy. Don't be satisfied with anything but pure and sacred Unconditional Love...Love without conditions.
