I'm sorry friend

Contributed by desolantdreamer on Tuesday, 18th December 2007 @ 01:37:29 AM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

Don't tell me I betrayed him
When I feel like I was the one betrayed
You don't try to understand where I'm coming from
I've given it everything, I've tried so hard
But I just can't keep this up
The pressure was too much, the pain too great
You're my best friend and you're so mad at me
I wish you could see why I had to do it
There was nothing good coming from it
I loved him, I truly did, I still do
But there are limits to what I can put up with
I didn't mean to hurt him
I didn't mean to do what I do
But there's just no fixing it
I can't be with him any longer
He lives hundreds of miles away
Doesn't trust me enough to tell me anything
I cry as the weeks turn to months without a word
I've tried, you can't say I didn't
But I need to be with someone true
I need to have someone to hold me, to see
I wasn't strong enough
Please forgive me, my best friend, you know me
I don't want to hurt anyone, and I didn't want to hurt him
You can never tell me I didn't try
But if you had ever seen me struggle
You would understand why I did it
I can't be with him, I want to but I can't
You're mad at me, and won't even try to see my point of view
I feel hurt enough as it is, why do you insist on making it worse?
I wasn't strong enough, I couldn't do it
It's painful enough to admit it
Why can't you understand?
If he and I were meant to be
Things should have gone so much differently
I had tried so hard to not wander or stray
But the pain of being alone was too great
I couldn't help myself but to flock to a guy around here
Forgive me, friend, but it was too hard
What's harder now, is the fact that he's mad
I don't know what to do to show you and him that I feel horrible about it,
But I see no other options
I had to do it, if only for now
Maybe there will come a day
When I'll look on my screen, I'll type
"I love you, Derek, I'll never leave again"
But I'm not strong enough for such a relationship as we had
Please my best friend, understand
I am torn up inside as it is, don't make it worse

It's a tough situation you find yourself in but I'm a firm believer in the fact that everything happens for a reason.
I'm sure things will turn out fine in the end

A guy is not worth messing up a good friendship. That is far more valuable. There are enough fish in the sea not to have a guy come between two friends. Well said, though.
