Those who set their lives by their avarice will succumb to their greed.
Those who set about hoarding trinkets will be undone by their loss.
Those who live for luxuries shall cease their search for the "ultimate comfort" only when they cease to live.
Look around you and see.
Can money really buy you what you want from life?
Will cold, hard diamond bring you the jewel of your life?
Is it a warm hearth or a warm heart that will give you real joy and pleasure in life?
Original Notes: (warning: horrendously wordy)
"The first of a small series of poems I appear to be writing.
I can't write decent poetry worth a dime, whenever I sit down and say I will write something about such and such, I generally fail miserably. I did not write this, it wrote itself. I found myself writing it late Christmas night, well, more like Boxing Day morning to be honest... what a way to spend christmas eh?
I guess one thing that could be read into this and the others I've done is that I am preaching that physical pleasures are harmful and should be ignored. This is not my intent. I am simply saying that selling your soul to either physical, spiritual or mental desires and ideals, whether your own or influenced by those around you, is, in my own personal veiw, foolish. I try to live each moment as it comes, accept everything and everyone for who they are. I try not to enhance my appearance or personality, for doing so takes away who I am. If someone does not like me, that is up to them. There are people I do not like, many of them, but they still are who they are and there's little point worrying or complaining or pretending about. Enjoy yourself. Love your friends and such and have as much fun as you can. Hrmph... now I'm going a lil' overboard and shall shut up, because going too far that direction will also spoil the message I'm trying to convey."

i agree with what you have to say. you did a good job condensing it. your notes are really wordy lol, it's ok to do wordy sometimes as long as it's not over done. some of the lines in the notes are really good though. |
