I walk along the path at night
Forty-six minutes and twenty-two seconds
Or I’ll run behind,
I swear this to you – I run behind.
Beyond a tree with etched lovers
History being eroded by the rain
My sweet rain
The path a lush green
A solitude you can’t get alone.
The end of the path
The Edge of my World.
The wind blowing
I didn’t forget my
Bobby pins.
The edge of nothingness
Blowing out my brain.
A little chill, a silent star,
I go back when my clock’s digits
Add up to twelve.
A memory of my candle burning
At home in my window sill.
I never blew the flame out,
It burns, burns, burns..
I swear to you –
It’s blazing right now.
To run home and blow it out?
Or stay until my clock
Adds up to twelve?
Sacrifice or sacrifice –
Either way,
I cannot win.
So I stay at the edge of nothingness,
Only then to return
To a pile of ashes,
Firefighters.
Asking my name.
