crooked in gait strolls the whistling chief
shrugging in reply to the people's whim
irony awaits the formerly favored
their champion unchanged
from when carried by them
revising the tune,
a new song plays
sang well as before
the composer fresh
with smiles familiar,
the whistler fades.
