Atrophy
By Fernando Castillo
He remembers her say though as she was still in his arms.
Her words echo constant, never seem to fade away
Never thought she would leave him alone,
Nothing turned out the way he hoped
So hard to let it go,
When nothing seems to go his way
Getting closer and closer
But lost his way
The drug’s a part of him
Clouds his mind, blurred, fade to gray
His mind is lost
Someplace he doesn’t know
Where nothing stays and all decays
Deep inside his glassy eye
Against the flame
He remains the same
Like the ice under the fire
His faith melts away
Every dream, wish, love, and desire
Rises out in the vapor
Disappears
