Valley Of The Ferns...

Contributed by LovingWhispers on Friday, 7th March 2003 @ 10:00:00 AM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

On mossy rocks by cooling waters
Where ferns so wildly grow
She sits to pen her heart on paper
Of the feelings for her beau

Across the dreamy ridge top
Her thoughts wander to the day
When he asked for her to be his bride
So together they could stay

Her sparkling eyes danced in tune
To the rythm of her heart
So happy and yet sorrowful
For his ship was soon to part

As he comforted her, he whispered
My love,please do not fear
For no matter where I journey
I will always keep you near

In the early morning hours
He sailed off to distant shores
And as the ship moved from the dock
She feared she'd see her love no more

With every passing week that
Felt more like many years
She would send him letters
Touched with love and many tears

One day a letter came to her
Across the many miles
It read "I'm coming home my love"
Oh,how her heart smiled

Time went by and came the morn
She rose before the sun
To wear the dress so newly sewn
And a lace ribbon, his favourite one

With a basket of fruit, bread and wine
For a picnic just for two
She set off for the dock as
Her anticipation grew

The ship was docked and waiting
They knew she would be there
And as she searched the many men
She did not see her true love there

The captain he stepped forward
With shaky voice and teary eyed
He regretfully informed her
That her true love had died

Somewhere in the darkness
Of the night before the last
A fever overcame him
And it worked it's evil fast

They wrapped him in his blanket
The one that she had made
And gave his body to the ocean
Where he would've wanted to be laid

For a moment she just stood there and
Wondered what to do
Then as his face came to her mind
In her heart of hearts she knew

Another letter had to be written
One more for it was her turn
So she gathered up her basket
And headed for the valley of the ferns

On mossy rocks by cooling waters
Where ferns so wildly grow
Her heart on paper in a bottle
She sends down the stream to her beau
