All Too Often

life is a drain
We do this to gain
things that can't be maintained
unless we join the game
of Count the Bodies Slain
Figuratively slain that is
steppin' on or over those that can't
survive it
They're thrown in a pit
labelled "misfits"
They're stationed in long dark rectangles
Soon people come to view them
"I don't understand. What was their angle?"
"Is that her?" "Is that him?"
"I thought she/he was safe with them."
Visiting bodies in the morgues
Praying to the lord
hoping you don't know it
Then your eyes start to sting
as your brain remembers all those things
His first steps
When you first pushed him on the swings
Now he's gone
and it's all to soon
All are lost without him
But there's nothing they can do
One has to move on when struck with such sickness
Life left a mess
and your back hurts from stress
but the pain from both will become less and less
You'll learn to deal
Your heart'll heal and you'll start to feel again
He'll be missed
but one would rather have had him
then not
You know that
and life goes on...
