Choices

Contributed by MemeCaroline on Monday, 26th November 2007 @ 06:59:23 PM in AEST
Topic: anguished

It was so many years ago
I walked out that front door.
I know it caused your tears to flow
Like so many times before.

And when that door had quietly shut
I knew I was not coming back.
The pain I’d caused had deeply cut
Because of the courage I lacked.

I think about you every day
And still see your beautiful face.
When I close my eyes and quietly pray
Thoughts of you time can’t ever erase.

I sometimes wonder if you still cry
Or am I not at all on your mind?
Each day I feel like I could die
I have missed you all of this time.

I’m so very sorry you’re all alone
But I knew I could no longer stay.
It’s been so hard not to telephone
Because I’ve ached for you every day.

There are demons I must overcome
And they still have a stronghold on me.
I tell myself I’m awfully dumb
For not fighting to have victory.

But maybe the day will finally arrive
When my trials are all in the past.
And I will no longer have to strive
I will have won my battle at last.

Yet how will I ever really rejoice
When I finally count what it cost?
And clearly see what was my choice
The one I loved most is now lost.
