Flaws

Contributed by inlovewithaladd on Monday, 26th November 2007 @ 05:35:02 PM in AEST
Topic: AngryPoetry

today i hate my body
i debate diet pills, lipo
i disgust myself
obsessing, every food is a
number,
and i am counting all day
this diet soda- 0
two pieces of dry toast- 140

i sit, slouching,
stare at my fat
i poke it, jiggle it,
loath it,
sixty sit ups in, my abs burn, i
move on
second hour on the treadmill,
body screaming, i run on
never thin enough
never, ever, pretty enough

i speak near fluent German
have navigated Alaskan waters in a 23'
survived two months of boot camp
and more than a year in the military (going on two, now)

and yet...
today, at lest,
i see only flaws

Don't set yourself to impossible standards!

Also, it's great that instead of just complaining, you actually diet and exercise. It speaks of your determination.

Don't give up! Anyone who judges you solely on your physical appearance isn't worth your time. There is obviously much more to you.

inlovewithaladd,

Once, way back, you described me as having an unusual willingness to expose my personal realities. You've got me beat by a country mile. You're a regular Bob Dylan when it comes to writing about real life!

I hated myself for fifty-four years. For most of those years I was slim and not bad looking. Now, I can jiggle my gut, I'm almost bald on top and couldn't do twenty sit-ups if my life depended on it, but I've finally given up hating myself and have even entertained the idea, I might just be okay. Go figure!

The lower case i was effective.
