forest tears

Contributed by ladyfawn on Friday, 7th March 2003 @ 05:00:00 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

they are cutting down the trees
bringing them to their knees
this is such a sad sight
it stays with me tonight
the sky now comes through
even that is more blue
trees laying in the road
their ring's story told
centuries old were these trees
a beautiful potpourri

pieces of bark everywhere
little bits of the animal's lairs
where will the birds sit now
how will the woodpeckers chow
the quiet darkness has disappeared
the gentle footsteps of the deer
i'm sorry, this is so wrong
the forest is only so strong
centuries old were these trees
a most beautiful potpourri

trees that have stood for so long
cut down from where they belong
for so long they lived and endured
civilization now their connoisseur
and all the wildlife's taken flight
where will they go overnight?
some fast money buccaneer
made all this beauty disappear

centuries old were these trees
a beautiful lost potpourri

I once heard man as being compared to a virus. It is the only lifeform that moves in, destroys it's own resources and then continues on to destroy even more, much the same way a virus operates.

I love this poem. Keep writng....
