Pastor's Lament

Lord, did I really hear Your voice?
Is this what You called me to do?
Or was it really just my choice
And I did not hear from You?

Sometimes I wonder when things go wrong
If I can cope much more.
It is so difficult to stay strong,
When this work has become such a chore.

I preach Your Word like You have said
Yet the people just sit and stare.
I sometimes wonder if they are dead
They seem so unaware.

There is so much work, but only a few
Who want to get it done.
I feel discouraged with all I do
Have I even reached a one?

But when I feel like giving up
I ask You what to do.
And the only words I hear You say
"Have I given up on you?"

And then I remembered it was Your voice
That was calling me to preach.
I knew I really had no choice
WIth so many lost to reach.

And as I cried on bended knee
Repenting what I said,
I knew there were things I could not see,
The blessings were ahead.

So I will keep on tending sheep
That the Lord has sent my way.
And my love for them will grow so deep
WIth the passing of each new day.

I'm not a pastor, but I know a very dedicated poem when I read it...strong write...
