I tried to stifle my weeping, holding his hand in death
A broken heart…
I truly hated the man
But loved him most of my life
One selfish act sent my whole admiration for him crashing down
A broken mind…
I was in awe of him, even tried to be like him
That soldier of W.W.II
A broken spirit…
As years passed through my fingers
I loved him, cared for him
He was the pinnacle of manhood
A broken ego…
I’ve despised him for twenty five years
For that selfish act
While trying to raise babes of my own
Fearing their granddad
He was a pathetic excuse for a man
A broken faith…
He must have thought
If he personified kindness, no one would be the wiser
But he forgot, secrets are never lasting
And down he fell, in my minds eye
Not to be forgotten, but never forgiven
In a grave, I’ll try not to visit
A broken chain…

God this made me flat out cry.
This brought many thoughts to mind, it is written with heart, beautiful in its sadness.
In a grave, I'll try not to visit
a broken chain.....
